Kenya: February 2007
In February a team traveled to Kenya to share the message of Christ (using the story cloth) with the Maasai. John Shepherd with Calvary Road Ministries led the group. He described the trip as follows.
In all, we had 168 adults that prayed to receive Christ and planted 5 new Story Telling Points (Churches). We saw 75 old men, 65 younger men and 28 women pray to receive Christ. To God be all the glory…what a country, what a people and what a Savior!
Everything that happened on this trip can best be summarized by what one older man (Musa) said as he was taking us to a new area. He accepted Christ on our last trip in September so he is a four month old Christian. He donated 40 acres of land for a new church at which he will be the leader, and they have been meeting every Sunday since then looking over the story cloth and sharing the stories. In fact, they had 50 people present the last Sunday I was in the country. As Musa was taking us to a new area where he knows many old men, he said the following:
“We have young preachers come and talk to our women and children with out our permission. Not one time has anyone come to talk to us older men until you and your people came to my boma in September. No one cared for us but you. It was a total surprise. You came and treated us with respect, told us the story of God’s Son. No one had ever done that before.
You showed us pictures as you told the story behind each picture. For the first time, I understood with my eyes (seeing the pictures), hearing the story with my ears, and believing in my heart that what you said was true. I know that the Son of God lives here (pointing to his heart).
With God’s help, I will learn the stories, and I will sacrifice myself to go all the way down this valley and find other hungry men like I was and tell them the story. I will challenge them to go as far as they can go and do the same.” Then he said, “If no other Nyankusi will listen then I will keep going until I find those who will listen and there we will start another Nyankusi Church and on and on until I die and go to be with Jesus in heaven.”
He then addressed Rampei: “We need your help. Send us men or maybe you can come one Sunday a month to teach us and the young men the stories for they must carry on when we old men are gone. We need teaching and someone to test us to see that we are learning correctly! We want to have a very special day in the near future in which we will have a fundraising day and dedicate the land and the church to the Lord. We will begin building the church immediately. The rest of my life will be given to the Lord and telling the story of His Son Jesus Christ.”
