Disaster Relief
Volunteer Disaster Relief teams are usually formed under the direction of the International Red Cross and/or the Tennessee Baptist Convention in response to crises of various natures. SHBC teams are also involved regularly in providing local assistance with ongoing projects.
The activities vary widely depending on the team a participant is trained for and assigned to. Examples include mass feeding, chain saw, mud out, laundry, child care and counseling. Participation with more than one kind of team is possible.
Training is a requirement for team membership. Volunteers need to be available for occasional call-up, which may be to local or remote locations. With any team called up to serve, strict adherence to the protocols established in the appropriate training is required.
